Audio Review : Bal Ganesh - BOLLYWOOD

A couple of years ago animated myth film ‘Hanuman’ hit the screens. Then came in ‘Krishna’ and then it was the turn of ‘My Friend Ganesha’ on the big screen.screen. Following this trend of animated film is Pankaj Sharma’s latest offering ‘Bal Ganesha’. ‘Bal Ganesha’ is different from ‘My Friend Ganesha’ in the sense that it trails the life of Lord Ganesha to his young days. The music CD of this film marks the coming together of musical big shots like Asha Bhosle,Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar, Hariharan, Shankar Mahadevan and Kailash Kher. Shamir Tandon composes for the soundtrack of this flick. The music director has not been able to make a significant mark in the musical world with his numerous compositions. And the music of this film doesn’t bring him any glory either. The track opens with ‘Ganaa Ganaa Di’ which instead of taking a conventional devotional route pucks in western arrangements. A host of singer comes up to croon this track where Shankar Mahadevan takes the lead.

Apart from him Amanat Ali, Aneek Dhar and Nirupama Dey thrust out their voices for this Shabbir Ahmed written track. The song livens up only when the tempo of 'Ganaa Ganaa Di' is in full valor. This track is again repeated in the album and this time it is crooned by Asha Bhonsle in sync with Junaid Sheikh, Mauli Dave, Sumedha Karmahe and Rishi. Although rendered with full spark, the final outcome is rather substandard.

The next track ‘Haathi Ka Bal, Akal, Shakal’ once again brings up another group rendition crooned by the likes of Sanchita Bhattacharya, Sameer Mohammad, Pavni and Raj Pandit. Penned by Vibha Pandit, this track turns up as another sore piece overcooked with irksome rendition and incongruous lyrics. The music is too bad and over the top rendition just contributes to make it worse.

Hariharan doles out ‘Aao Sunaata Hoon Sabko’ in conjunction with Lavanya, Siddhant Bhonsle and Ketkee. This track, which is in the form of storytelling, marks the fusion of Indian classical rendition with Western pop. But the upshot is scarcely endearing. Encumbered by the intonation of ‘Om Ganesha Namah’ in the pro tem, this track is best suited in children's nursery rhyme album.

‘Naache Dhin Dhin Dhintak’ is the first solo piece in the soundtrack crooned by the indigenous singer Kailash Kher. Rendered in nearly a breathless mode by Kailash Kher, this racy song upsurges as one of the better tracks in the album.

‘Ganesh Utpati’, the next devotional song in offering is crooned by Hema Desai. This Rajendra Mehra written number retains a serene and sober mood and fills one with devotion since it is devoid of all western influences. Encumbered with chants of ‘Om Namah Shivay’, this slow paced track with minimal arrangements makes for a devoted hearing.

The album winds up with ‘Nanha Munna Bal Ganesh’ that has two melodious muses Asha Bhonsle and Usha Mangeshkar uniting to render this Shabbir Ahmed written track. It is mercifully devoid of any western arrangements and narrates the young days of the elephant god. But this serene track is bothered mid way by a westernized male rendition in the pro tem which somewhat tarnishes the impact. The soundtrack of this film is not up to scratch since Shamir Tandon goes out of the way to encumber the songs with western beats that this devotional album hardly warranted. On the whole, the soundtrack of this film hardly possesses any song that makes for a repetitive hearing.
