Toting up to long list of successful crossover films is debutant Manish Acharya’s maiden directorial and production venture ‘Loins Of Punjab’, an offhand flick that glides down a rib-tickling base. Hyped as an uproarious slapstick, this flick spins around seven strangers whose lives ran during a singing gala in a small town in New Jersey. This attention-grabbing film is blessed with equally fascinating soundtrack. One of the tracks ‘Indian Girls Are Now Liking Bhangra’ can be hailed as the shortest track one has ever heard because it spins for not more than just 7 seconds. Now that’s incredible and indelible, isn’t it! The place of duty of this dialogue piece in the film is the next interesting thing to look forward to.‘Dhol Beat’, the next track to line up surprisingly and paradoxically doesn’t have the words 'Dhol Beat' being crooned even once in its entire duration. This one is an assemblage of rap, reggae, bhangra and what not and can be said to derive its title mainly from its genre.
Embellished with intoxicating tempo and catchy English lyrics, this song is here to stay. A little extra campaigning for this track could have done wonders for the film.
Before long this track once again bounces back with ‘The Loins Club Mix’ that is a far more zanier edition than the original one. Exhilarating beats offers it an enticing drive which once on, catches up like wild fire. Even the rap-n-reggae sounds more thrilling here and easily gets all listeners jiving.
Another dialogue piece steps in as ‘Pulp Friction’, which lasts for nearly 30 seconds. A side-splitting bit that exhibits some of the men checking out video films which ultimately turn out to be porn titles, there is also a yarn on piracy which adds to its exclusiveness. Yet another brief piece is ‘Checking In’ that runs while introducing the four Patel brothers whose name starts with ‘S’ check-in in a hotel. This track lasts for barely 15 seconds.
The soundtrack of this so-called musically inclined film lasts nearly whole nine minutes, which is stupendous indeed. Of all the tracks ‘Dhol Beat’ is the best pick. The album of this innovative film is likely to click with the urban horde.
