Big B proud of recognition for Indian cinema at Cannes
Cannes, May 23 (PTI): Enjoying every opportunity to play a variety of roles, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan says it is wonderful that he is being "tested even at 65."His latest film "Cheeni Kum", where he features as the love interest of a much younger character played by Tabu will be screened at Cannes. Stating that it may not be commercially prudent to deviate from the usual structure of playing a leading man, he hoped that audiences would be able to associate morals with the characters rather than looking at them from a distance.
Relieved that he does not have the burden of being a leading man anymore and is free from the need to get commerce for a film, Bachchan said that he is now getting roles which challenge him as an artiste.
Adding that Cannes was a "wonderful experience" for newly-wed Abhishek and Aishwarya Bachchan, he was delighted at the recognition Indian films and stars were receiving from the French people.
"Cannes is internationally famous for marketing films all over the world. It is wonderful to find Indian cinema here as well," said Bachchan.
Elaborating further, he said that he was happy to see that immigration and security officials at the airport recognised him and talked about his films.
Indian films were making a mark in France, he added.
