Russell Crowe was born April 7, 1964 in Wellington, New Zealand as Russell Ira Crowe. He moved to Australia at the age of 4 and is now considered to be an Australian actor. His background is Norwegian, Irish and Maori.
Russell atended the National Institute of Dramatic Arts in Sydney, Australia.
He started his acting career in the early 90's by having roles in quite a number of movies, with the first groundbreaking one being the violent Romper Stomper movie in 1992. In 2001Crowe won the Academy Award for Best Actor in the "Gladiator" movie. He was also nominated for Best actor in "The Insider" and "A Beautiful Mind". The famous Australian Hollywood actor also won Best Actor in the 2002 British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
Russell Crowe has been involved in movies not just as an actor, but also as a director and producer. Crowe was the producer and the director of the movies "Texas" (2002) and the director in movie "60 Odd Hours in Italy".
Since 2003 Russell Crowe has been married to Danielle Spencer, who is an Australian singer. The couple have a son Charles Spencer Crowe (born 2003).
Russell Crowe is also a musician, being the lead singer in the rock group 30 Odd Foot of Grunts, which was founded in 1992 and which has released three music albums in 1998, 2001 and 2003.
Russell has been arrested several times and has been accused of physical violence in public places (the last incident happened on June 6, 2005).
