Biography
Sanjay Leela Bhansali is an Indian director, best known for helming the 2002 adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's Devdas. His works also include Khamoshi: The Musical (1996), Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) and Black (2005) (a loose adaptation of The Miracle Worker).
His directing trademarks include lush visuals and loud melodrama. He has won the Filmfare Award for Best Director twice; for Devdas and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. His next project was to be Bajirao Mastani (2006) but it has been shelved as of now.
Bhansali has adopted the middle name "Leela" as a tribute to his mother, Leela Bhansali.
He is an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali has won the Filmfare Award every time he has been nominated for it, winning Best Director awards for Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas and most recently, Black.
